Case Study: ASME A17.1 Elevator Compliance Plates
Here is a real-world breakdown of a recent batch of ASME A17.1 elevator compliance plates we manufactured for a North American client.

The Project
The client required seven distinct plate types (including AHJ Registration, Brake Test, and Cab Alteration plates) for elevator machine rooms and cabs. To pass strict ASME A17.1 safety audits, these plates needed permanent legibility, mandatory safety colors, and durable write-on zones for field technicians.
Engineering & Production Specs
To survive decades in a greasy, humid machine room, standard surface printing fails. Here is how we built them using 1.0mm aluminum:
-
The Background (Type II Anodization): We used a high-visibility orange-red dye sealed inside the aluminum oxide layer. It will not chip, peel, or fade from chemical wipedowns.
-
Write-On Zones (Precision Masking): Instead of using cheap stickers, we masked specific areas during the dye process. The result is a clear-anodized, brushed silver zone that contrasts sharply with the red and accepts standard marker ink perfectly.
-
High-Contrast Text (Screen Printing): All titles are screen-printed in opaque white. The registration tolerance between the printed text and the masked zones is strictly held to ±0.2mm.
-
Die-Cutting: Stamped to final dimensions with identical corner radii across all seven plate types to ensure a unified set.
Speed & Delivery
Working with an overseas factory shouldn’t mean endless revision loops. Our engineering team handled all drawing reviews directly in English and shipped physical samples just 5 business days after drawing approval. The entire mass production batch was released in under three weeks.
